Budapest, Hungary

April 20, 2017 by hollyGS

The ever picturesque city of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, resides on the fast flowing river Danube. This originally Celtic city has seen many different influences over the years, and it shows in the city’s wide range of architecture! The Fisherman’s Bastion was on my bucket list for years, and I was able to visit it and cross it off my list! The architecture is unlike anything I have ever seen, and I find it difficult to interpret what culture […]

Beautiful Prague: Praha Czech Republic

April 17, 2017 by hollyGS

Oh, Prague! What an unreal city. First order of business was rushing to Charles Bridge to catch the breath taking sunset over the river. Absolutely the most magical sunset I have ever witnessed. The ghoulish statues that line the Charles Bridge, silhouetted again the bright pink sky!! Recommend recommend recommend! My time in Prague was spent doing three things; wandering the streets of the old city and embracing all I saw, drinking criminally cheap beer and consuming more cabbage than […]

Top 5 Things to do in Berlin

April 15, 2017 by hollyGS

My stay in Berlin was short due to flight cancellations and delays, but the time I spent in Berlin was certainly memorable. Here are a few of our favourite things to see and do whilst in Berlin! Number 5: Reichstag The beautiful Reichstag building has undergone many transformations due to both war and fire. The current building was renovated in the early 90’s and includes the iconic transparent dome. Perched on top of the Reichstag is a completely glass dome, […]

Top 5 Things to do in Hiroshima

March 16, 2017 by hollyGS

We didn’t really know what to expect before we went to Hiroshima. There is certainly a lot of information about Hiroshima on the internet, but it seems to focus more on the tragic history of the city. We had been told by a friend that Hiroshima was a very difficult city for him to visit, so we were prepared for a bombardment of difficult memorials and images of the past. Yes, Hiroshima certainly pays tribute to it’s traumatic past, but […]

Bangkok Sights Day 2

February 8, 2017 by hollyGS

We started our morning off with complementary breakfast before heading to the Grand Palace. Along the way, we encountered two separate people that tried to convince us that the Palace was closed, never believe this!! The walk took us about 15 minutes from Khaosan road. In order to enter the Palace, you must be dressed appropriately. The dress code here is maintained like no other temple I’ve ever been to. You must cover your legs and shoulders 100% and those […]

Bangkok Self Guided Walking Tour

February 5, 2017 by hollyGS

We arrived in Bangkok by sleeper train at roughly 6am. Our hostel check-in time wasn’t until noon, but we headed to the hostel in hopes of being able to drop our bags off. We jumped in a cab and told the driver to head to Khoasan Road (we were staying one street away). It was still dark when we arrived at Khoasan Road, but we were able to easily navigate to our hostel as the sun came up. We arrived […]

Laos to Thailand by Train!

February 1, 2017 by hollyGS

We started the day off with our complementary breakfast out on the porch again! We really enjoyed the hotel, and our secluded little porch surrounded by greenery! Could not recommend http://www.salalao.com/sala_inpeng/content/inpeng.htm Auberge Sala Inpeng enough! We then walked around the downtown portion of Vientiane again, taking in a few last sights. We stopped for three separate meals!! We took a Tuk Tuk to Thanaleng train station, which proved to be in the middle of nowhere. We had a bit of […]

Vientiane Laos Walking Tour

January 30, 2017 by hollyGS

We woke up, and went out to the front porch of our gorgeous hut for complementary breakfast! Sipping coffee, we decided what we wanted to do for the day. We decided to go on a self guided walking tour of Vientiane’s sights before attempting to meet up with a friend in the afternoon. We set off, firstly to Wat Si Saket or Si Saket Temple about a 15 minute walk from our hotel (Wat means temple). Our favourite feature of […]

Danang Vietnam, Marble Mountain

January 28, 2017 by hollyGS

We woke up at 6 am to eat breakfast before we had to check out of the hotel. We had a noon flight from Danang to Hanoi then from Hanoi to Vientiane Laos. But before we headed to the airport, there was one more place in Danang was really wanted to see, Marble Mountain! Our hotel arranged a taxi ride for us from Hoi An to Danang and then from Marble Mountain to the airport. I believe we paid 20$ […]
