Early Morning Adventures: Discovering Venice’s Beauty Without the Tourists!

June 14, 2026 by hollyGS

We woke up pretty early to try to see the very touristy spots before too many tourists woke up and the tours arrived. First we headed to the Ponte Rialto, a beautiful white marble bridge over the busy Rialto. This bridge gets soooo busy later on in the day, but we had it mostly to ourselves.  We then walked to the Piazza de San Marco THE most touristy spot in Venice by far, but there were relatively few people there! […]

Best European Train Journey from Munich Germany to Venice Italy (through the Alps!)

June 7, 2026 by hollyGS

We had set our alarms for 6am to catch the train from Munchen HBF to Venice at 7:32am. It was a chilly morning walk to the station as the sun was still an hour from rising. We bought two coffees and two pretzels and sat down at our track two to eat our breakfast and wait almost an hour for our train to Venice Italy, passing through Austria on the way.  The train arrived thirteen minutes before the departure and […]

A Perfect Day in Munich: From Breakfast to Beer Gardens

May 24, 2026 by hollyGS

We left the room fairly late, around 9:00am and headed a few blocks down to have breakfast at a little cafe. We both got a nice bun with cheese and egg on it, mine had lettuce and tomato too. We also ordered a coffee each. We then slowly walked to the old town, seeing some lovely street art along the way.  In Marienplatz we arrived just as the glockenspiel  was doing its hourly thing, so we stopped and observed this […]

Adventures in Munich: Rainy Day Sightseeing

May 17, 2026 by hollyGS

We got up at 7am and packed up all our stuff, heading to the train station at 8am after a few coffees. The walk took about 30 minutes from our accommodation, it was drizzling lightly. We arrived at the train station in Nuremberg at 8:30am and bought a coffee at a shop and proceeded to track number nine where our train to Munich would arrive at 9:10am. We had a few of the sandwiches I had made and packed the […]

Exploring Nuremberg: A Day of Unique Discoveries. City Walls and 🍺Beer Halls! 🍻(Best city in Germany?)

May 3, 2026 by hollyGS

We woke up fairly late as we had had quite a few early mornings in a row. I made coffee for myself and Jives joined me at around 9am. We made some toast with smoked cheeses and had a lovely slow morning. We didn’t set out on the day’s adventure until around 11:30am, late for us. We started our day’s wandering off at the wall that surrounds the old town of Nuremberg. We walked around the bottom of the walls […]

Exploring Prague to Nuremberg: A Travel Journey

April 26, 2026 by hollyGS

We set our alarms for 6:30am to catch our 8:34am train to Cheb. The train had been “cancelled” but in a weird way that an English speaker might be confused about. We had coffee and bread and cheese in our room and then checked out. The elevator in the hallway made a sound as the doors opened that sounded like “cheezin”. Certainly the elevator isn’t talking about cheese, right? I like to imagine a weird world of whimsy sometimes…  We […]

Exploring Prague Czechia: Clock Tower Views and Hidden Gems

April 12, 2026 by hollyGS

We woke up a bit later, close to 8am and had coffee in the room. We then headed out to a restaurant not too far away called “Fat Cat” for a delicious breakfast. We both ordered the same thing, eggs benedict with salmon and an americano coffee. Not a super authentic Czech breakfast, but soooo good. Stop #1 – The Old Clock Tower We then headed to the old town square to climb the clock tower, something I had wanted […]

Berlin to Prague by Train! Self Guided Walking Tour of Prague’s Main Sights!

March 29, 2026 by hollyGS

We set our alarms for 5:30am to catch the early 6:53am train from Berlin HBF to Prague Czechia. We were able to get out of the hotel and drop the key off in the check out box by 6am. We then walked 12 minutes to the Berlin HBF and figured out where our train would be leaving from (platform 11 D-G) from the big screen showing all the arriving and departing trains. We then bought two coffees and two pretzels […]

Self-Guided Walking Tour: Discovering Berlin’s Landmarks

March 15, 2026 by hollyGS

We had gone to sleep at 8pm the night before, as it had been very close to two days for us without sleep. Our hotel was basically on a train track, so the noise was almost constant. We slept on and off until 11:00am. I woke up so thirsty! We set out not long after waking up, into the pouring rain for our one full day in Berlin.  We walked to Alexanderplatz first, stopping to buy water (the bubbly kind […]
