Exploring Dotombori |Kanazawa to Osaka Japan

February 22, 2020 by hollyGS

We were able to catch the 11:02am Thunderbird train from Kanazawa to Osaka. We arrived at the station, and gave our passes to the JR attendant, and they issued the tickets for the journey with no issue at all. We cannot recommend the JR pass enough!!!! How to get a JR pass. We arrived at Shin-Osaka, just outside Osaka city, at 2:05pm. To check times for trains we also recommend Hyperdia, it’s an amazing tool! (To Book Train Travel in […]

In trying to find a time that worked for all three of our work schedules, we landed on March, late March. We knew that Sakura season was BIG in Japan, […]

January 25, 2020 by hollyGS

I woke up around 6:00am and went downstairs to have a coffee. We had some complementary breakfast, before heading out on our adventures for the day, around 8am. We set out towards the famous Kenrokuen garden. It cost 310 Yen each to enter. Along the way we stopped at a beautiful temple that had been set up for a festival. The Kenrokuen garden is said to be one of the top 3 most beautiful gardens in the world, along with […]

Kanazawa JAPAN | Self Guided Walking Tour

January 11, 2020 by hollyGS

Here is the LINK to the self guided walking tour MAP of Kanazawa Japan. We are not shy with walking, but if you find some of the legs of this trip too long, you can always hop on the Kanazawa Loop bus. There is a red city bus that loops around Kanazawa (the right bus) and a green one as well (the left bus) that loops in the opposite direction. The bus passes by all of the sites on this […]

Nikko | Kanmangafuchi Abyss and Taiyuinbyo Mausoleum

December 7, 2019 by hollyGS

After trekking up the cedar lined trail to Takino-o Shrine, we decided to visit Taiyuinbyo Mausoleum. This is where the 3rd Tokogawa Shogun is enshrined, the grandson of Ieyasu. Admission is 550 Yen. This shrine was set into the mountains and you had to climb many stairs to see it. This shrine was gorgeous! There were lanterns donated by Daimyo feudal lords to the Shogunate. We then descended the mountain and left the national park in search of food. I […]
