Next up on our tour of Old Town Montreal was Place d’Youville and the hospital of the grey nuns. I had read about the grey nuns before our trip, some of the information is very conflicting. The order of grey nuns was started by a lady named Marie-Marguerite d’Youville. Marie-Marguerite d’Youville had been married to François Youville, a shipper/smuggler of various items, prohibited and not, from Europe to Canada and the United States. Marie-Marguerite d’Youville had been around addicts during her time in Canada, and decided to give back to her community by founding this order of Nuns who would take care of addicts and the poor in Montreal. There have been links between the order of the Grey Nuns and there participation in the residential school system of Canada and the Catholic Church.

We then walked to Square-Victoria to see the Paris Metro sign on permanent “loan” from Paris France. If you’ve been to Paris France, this sign will look very familiar.

Next week took a quick metro trip over to Chinatown….
