Kyoto & Arashiyama, Japan

September 10, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 7:Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavillion) and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove We arrived at Kiyomizu temple just as they were opening the gates. 6am was the best time we could have possibly picked, and we cannot emphasize enough how magical it is to explore the grounds without bus loads of tourists all around you! The entrance fee is 400 Yen. We walked from our hostel, but you can alternatively take the bus (if you dare) to Kiyomizu-michi bus stop, or preferably […]

Nara & Fushimi Inari, Japan

September 10, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 6: Nara and Fushimi Inari Shrine We woke up and almost immediately set out in search of coffee! We stumbled upon a place that appeared to be a chain, about a block away. It was called Holly’s coffee, so naturally we had to stop. While sipping our coffee, we decided that we’d head to Nara for the day. Nara is approximately a 45 minute train ride from Kyoto on the JR Nara line (which was included on our […]

Takayama & Hida Village, Japan

June 8, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 5: Hida Village and Kyoto We woke up really early in order to see Hida Village before we had to catch a train to Kyoto. We walked to Takayama train station in order to catch the bus to Hida Village. You are able to purchase tickets from a machine at the train station. The combination ticket includes the bus ride to and from Hida Village as well as the entrance fee. I cannot remember for certain, but I […]

Takayama and the Hida Express, Japan

June 8, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 4: Takayama and the Hida Express On our second morning in Japan, we awoke at out Love Hotel in Shibuya and packed up. We took the metro from Shibuya to Tokyo Station where we lined up to reserve tickets on the train from Tokyo to Takayama. The trip to Takayama required a stop in Nagoya. We took the Tokaido Shinkansen to Nagoya (which took about 2 hours) and transferred to the Hida limited express train to Takayama (which […]

Tokyo & Odaiba, Japan

June 7, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 3: Tokyo, Odaiba and a Love Hotel Day three was filled with exploration! We woke up early and decided to explore Asakusa 浅草(where our hostel was). We walked to Senso-ji temple in the heart of Asakusa. It was a bit chilly and rainy so we decided to explore the mostly indoor wonder called Odaiba, situated on a man made island in Tokyo Harbour. In order to get to Odaiba you need to take the metro to Shimbashi station […]

Jetting off to Tokyo

June 7, 2016 by hollyGS

Japan Day 1: Jetting off to Tokyo Our decision to buy a flight to Tokyo was a very fluid one. I was browsing flights online, as I do for fun, (everyone needs a weird hobby) and came across a very cheap flight to Tokyo. Toronto to Detroit to Tokyo/Narita…800$ USD with Delta !!! Jives had never been outside  North America before, but when I approached him with the idea, he immediately said YES! So that same week my Otaku and […]
