Nakano Broadway |AND Odaiba’s new Gundam Robot

June 14, 2020 by hollyGS

We spent the morning in Mitaka at the Ghibli Museum (you can read in our previous post all about that!) but on the way back to Tokyo we stopped off at Nakano Broadway. (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click Here) Nakano Broadway is a crazy nerd paradise! There are four floors ,and possibly a basement of everything an otaku could dream of: manga, figurines, costumes, trains, dolls, animation cells… We spent a few hours here and then had conveyor […]

The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka Japan| How to get tickets

June 7, 2020 by hollyGS

We woke up and had coffee before heading to Mitaka for the Ghibli Museum. Mitaka is a city on the outskirts of Tokyo (to the west). You can easily access Mitaka station with your JR pass from central Tokyo. From our airbnb we took the Yamanote line to Shinjuku Station then transferred to the Chou JR line. The Chou line transects Tokyo, and you can get on it at a few stations across Tokyo. Mitaka is only a few stops […]

Ueno Park Sakura Viewing |Hoppy St., Asakusa, Akihabara, Shinjuku!

May 17, 2020 by hollyGS

We woke up and went to the Kombini to grab some food for a makeshift Hanami party at Ueno Park. We got to see the most amazing display of cherry blossoms!!!! We arrived before the big crowds, which was amazing! We walked around the big pond in Ueno Park and saw a lot of stalls set up selling festival foods. We then headed to Gotokuji to try and see the waving cat shrine. This was a bit disappointing because we […]

Nagoya to Tokyo

May 12, 2020 by hollyGS

We woke up at 8:30am and headed to the hostel cafe for a buffet breakfast of toast, egg and riceballs. It was 500 Yen but totally worth it! We checked out at 10:00am and walked to the Nagoya central station to take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Tokyo. The journey took about 1 hour and 45 minutes and was free with our JR pass (as long as you take the Hikari or Kodama trains). (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click […]

24 Hours in Nagoya

May 3, 2020 by hollyGS

We took the Osaka loop line to Osaka station, then the Kyoto JR line to Shin-Osaka (this is where the long distance trains leave from), where we got tickets on the Hikari Shinkansen to Nagoya, leaving at 12:16 and arriving at 13:25. The journey was free with out JR passes (for more information about the JR pass, I’ve written a whole post about how to get them). We then bought delicious train bentos to eat on the train. Mine had […]

Osaka Castle |Sakura Viewing

April 29, 2020 by hollyGS

We woke up at 7:00am and headed to Osaka Castle on the Osaka loop line. (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click Here) We stopped at a bakery for breakfast once we arrived at JR Osaka Jokoen Station. There wasn’t space for the three of us to sit and eat breakfast together, but the nice ladies next to me moved so that we could sit together. People in Japan are so friendly! We then walked into the Osaka Castle Park, […]

Day Trip to Fushimi Inari Shrine from Osaka

April 12, 2020 by hollyGS

We took the train from Osaka to Kyoto central station (see the post before if you want that information). We then took the Nara Line from Kyoto station and got off at Inari Station. Inari was intense. There were so many tourists, and it was raining now, so the crowds walking with their umbrellas was a lot to handle. (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click Here) We first walked down the street and found some street vendors selling delicious […]

Shinsekai Osaka | Retro Neighbourhood

March 29, 2020 by hollyGS

After a full day at Nara, we decided to explore a neighbourhood in Osaka called Shinsekai. Shinsekai is a cool retro neighbourhood in Osaka developed before world war two and centered around Tsutenkaku Tower. The closest station would be Shin-Imamiya Station on the JR Loop Line. (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click Here) We ate at a cool little izakaya where we tried the iconic Kushikatsu, along with beer! Kushikatsu is lightly breaded and deep fried food on a […]

March 15, 2020 by hollyGS

I woke up at 6:00am and had a coffee at the kotatsu as everyone else showered and got ready. We left the airbnb around 8:30am to head to Nara. The train to Nara is free with a JR pass, so long as you take the Yamatoji line. We went to Osaka central before transferring to this line. The ride took 50 minutes. (To Book Train Travel in Japan Click Here) We arrived at JR Nara Station around 10:00am. The station […]
