Here is a video we made at Sanda Muni Pagoda | The Prince Rebellion Mandalay Myanmar

After visiting Kuthodaw Pagoda, or the world’s largest book, we visited the shrine right next to it Sanda Muni Pagoda. I believe that there two temples together hold the Guinness World record for largest book, because combined they have over 1700 marble slabs, each containing a single page of Buddhist text. Entrance to both Sanda Muni and Kuthodaw Pagoda is free.

Sanda Muni Pagoda holds the remains of King Mindon Ming’s slain brother, as well as three other young princes, who were killed during the Prince Rebellion of 1866.

The Prince of Myingun rebelled against his father King Mindon Min on the 2nd of August 1866, because he disagreed with the way in which Myanmar (then Burma) was modernizing. The rebellion lasted a few weeks, and many officials and royalty were killed. In the end Prince of Myingun fled to Vietnam (Saigon) where he lived in exile, often leading anti British movements in Myanmar and elsewhere.
