To make the journey from Kaohsiung to Tainan, we woke up pretty early, just in case it took us a few hours to figure out the process. We checked out of our airbnb and headed to Kaohsiung main train station to buy tickets to Tainan on the local train.

The ticket machine was a lot like the one we had used to get tickets to Juifen. You put your money into the machine first, then select your number of people, select “local” train, and type of fare (in our case adult), and then select the location “Tainan”. It cost us 58 NTD each.

We then asked the station attendant what platform (we found the train board really confusing), she directed us to platform 2A for the local train at 11:00am. The platform said to stand between numbers 4 to 11 for the local train. The train was written on the overhead platform board as “Houli” bound.

The train looked a lot like the local trains in Japan do, a bit like an underground carriage would. The trip took about one hour. The train station is very centrally located in Tainan city, which is convenient.

We arrived in Tainan around 12pm and started the 20 minute walk to our airbnb. We stopped along the way to buy two beers at a grocery store. We drank our beers in a park near by, as we waited to meet our airbnb host at 1pm.

We met our host at the house, and he showed us around the cute retro looking one room house! The bedroom was upstairs in a loft, and it was the perfect place for us, complete with a kitchen!
