A RICE BALL Shrine in Tokyo??!! (Weird spots in Tokyo Japan)

December 31, 2023 by hollyGS

I woke up at 5:30ish and wrote in my book. I also did a bit of research about how to get to Tono later that day. I was finally able to get Jives to wake up at about 8am. We set off to get some breakfast from a combini. We walked over the Sumida river, in the direction of a temple I had followed online for years, Takagi Jingya. The shrine is for onigiri, and popular with students preparing for […]

Flying to Tokyo Japan in Winter (First Impressions)

December 27, 2023 by hollyGS

We packed up the last of our stuff and headed for the airport at about 8:30am. After a stop at the bank and the gas station, we were on the road to the airport. It was morning rush hour so it took a bit over an hour to get to Toronto. We parked in the park and fly lot in Etobicoke and jumped in a shuttlebus to terminal one – Air Canada. Our shuttle bus was full to capacity with […]

NORTHERN JAPAN In WINTER!!

December 17, 2023 by hollyGS

On February 1st we jumped on a plane to Tokyo Narita Airport to experience Japan in the middle of winter. We activated out JR train passes and headed straight for Northern Japan, where they receive some of the highest snow falls in the world!! We visited Tono, Iwate, the home of Yokai and tricky spirits before heading further north to take the bullet train under the sea to Hokkaido, visiting the amazing port town of Hakodate, the death valley of […]

We Are Leaving Indonesia (Seeing Airforce One)

December 14, 2023 by hollyGS

We tried to sleep in a bit more as it was a travel day, but only made it until about 7:30am. We headed down for breakfast at the waterfront, Jives had an omelette and I had Nasi Goreng. I decided I wanted to snorkel one last time, so we headed down to the water and swam out to the wreck once more. We snorkelled for about   2 hours and headed back in at about 11:00 am. We washed up […]

Snorkeling the USS Liberty, Tulamben (Bali, Indonesia) WW2 Shipwreck

November 19, 2023 by hollyGS

We woke up at 6:00 after a patchy sleep. We headed to breakfast at 7:00am, the earliest we could. We sat at bar stools facing out over the water. Jives had coffee and an omelette. All the options had meat, so I had a boiled egg and some toast. We headed back to our room and got into our snorkel gear. We headed down to the water at the back of our hotel, and then just slightly to the left […]

Arriving in Tulamben Bali Indonesia First Impressions

November 12, 2023 by hollyGS

After getting settled in our room, we walked just down the street a little to a shop where we bought some band-aids, nail trimmers, beer, coffee for the morning and some snacks.. you know, the essentials. We then walked to a little restaurant with a rooftop seating area and had some early dinner. Jives ordered pizza with fish, pineapple, mushrooms and onion and I had a tempe satay with rice and a delicious peanut butter satay sauce. We then walked […]

FAST BOAT to Bali Indonesia (Gili Air- Lombok- Bali)

October 22, 2023 by hollyGS

We woke up at 6am and packed our bags up. We then jumped on the bicycles, provided by our hotel , and headed to the port to use the ATM. There is only one working ATM on the island and it often runs out of money, as well there are often power cuts rendering the ATM pretty useless. The bike ride was lovely, as it was about 7:20 and only locals were out at this time. It was cool and […]

Sunset Picnic on GILI AIR, Lombok Indonesia

October 15, 2023 by hollyGS

After our delicious vegetarian meal, we packed our snorkel bag and set out for our third snorkel of the day, but this time further north on the east coast of the island, where we had seen the sea turtles on day one. We didn’t see any sea turtles, but we had fun and saw lots of fish and weird shaped coral (one shaped like a giant island with lots of colour corals growing out of it). The water was HOT […]

Biking around Gili Air (Our last day in tropical paradise)

October 8, 2023 by hollyGS

We woke up and had a few coffees before having breakfast, the same as yesterday, we made the eggs but we were also provided with fruit, bread, granola etc. We set out pretty early for a snorkel adventure, a bit before 10am.  We found a spot a bit further down the east coast from where we had snorkelled the day previous. We snorkelled for about an hour, and I saw quite a few clown fish (which I was told is […]
