BUMBLING TOURIST

We Are Leaving Indonesia (Seeing Airforce One)

We tried to sleep in a bit more as it was a travel day, but only made it until about 7:30am. We headed down for breakfast at the waterfront, Jives had an omelette and I had Nasi Goreng. I decided I wanted to snorkel one last time, so we headed down to the water and swam out to the wreck once more. We snorkelled for about   2 hours and headed back in at about 11:00 am. We washed up and packed our bags and then went across the street to buy one last beer that we drank on the tiny stools in the hotel’s gardens.

Here is a video we made about our last moments in Indonesia

At 1:00pm we checked out and headed to reception where we were double charged for beers from our first night. I was going to tip 100,000 as that is what I had left…  but the beers were 100,000 so the money went to that instead. Our driver arrived and we drove four hours to the airport. It was raining so hard the entire drive. Our driver stopped to grab some lunch at a little roadside stall. We arrived at the airport at 4:00pm ish and went through baggage scan and immigration super quick. In all it took less than one hour to get through security.

Security was a bit tricky as our boarding passes were on my phone (Jives’ phone had been ruined), we had to pass my phone back and forth through scanners etc. We had a meal at a weird diner, eggs and fries and that’s when I noticed the airport was full of diplomatic planes. We watched the Saudi Ambassadors get on a huge plane beside us.

Then I noticed Air Force One, the US presidential plane, across the runway. We watched so many diplomatic flights leave, which I thought was really cool. Jives didn’t seem to care.. The G20 summit had ended the same day as we were trying to leave Indonesia, November 16th, so all the leaders were jetting off. Many flights including ours were very delayed. In total we waited about seven hours to board our flight. We had expected to have a 16 hour layover in Amsterdam on the way home, but instead we had about a 6 hour layover.
