After exploring the gorgeous waters on the east coast of Gili Air, we walked to the west coast of the island to snorkel, but the water was pretty wavy and it was difficult to see. I saw a lot of creepy snake-like creatures and an eel.

We then walked the rest of the way down the west coast of Gili Air to the port and bought four beers (the big bottles) at the store there for 164,000 which is very cheap. We then retraced our steps to find a place for a beer and to catch the sunset. We walked by so many locals with their horses and fixing their boats, kids swimming and even one kid paddling a styrofoam boat of his creation.

We found a place to sit and have a beer as the sun went down, The waiter was adorable and sang and danced to the songs playing (Jamiroqui) and he had cute banter with his “crazy uncle” other server. We sat as the sun went down and then set off down the beach to see the final section of the island that we hadn’t explored yet.

We walked by so many magical restaurants set up with lanterns. We stopped one more time for a beer at a place that was playing jazz music. At this point it was fully dark, and all we could make out along the beach were the lanterns and some locals having a bonfire/ sing along.

After our beers we walked back to our hotel via the light on my phone, stumbling upon two cows, a mom and a baby. Unaware we awkwardly dashed between the pair in the dark which upset the mom… Back at our hotel we listened to music and had some snacks we had bought at the shop. We both did not have access to the internet (Jives’ phone was ruined and the internet had been turned off) but it was nice to have a forced disconnect and to sit and listen to nature and each other.
