We woke up and I ordered breakfast from our lovely host through Whatsapp on my phone. Breakfast arrived at our door; 2 bowls of fruit, water, melon juice, milk, granola, 2 rolls, jam and 4 eggs to cook ourselves. We fried up the eggs with lots of pepper and chowed down. We then packed our day bag and headed to the east side of Gili Air to snorkel.

We found a spot to stash our bags and set off into the water. The first 20 feet was mostly seaweed before transitioning to coral. We had an amazing time, seriously one of the coolest experiences of my life. I saw a fish so bright blue it was blinding! So many different shapes and colours of coral. After about 15 minutes a spanish man swam up to me frantically and said “if you want to see a sea turtle there is one right over here”. I followed him a few feet and, OH MY GOODNESS!!! The turtle was giant! I called Jives over, and we filmed the turtle a little bit. We let the sea turtle swim away, but we spotted another one almost right away! We watched this sea turtle for quite awhile and then headed back to the shore. I found a cool shell that opened and closed as I neared it, with a pearl like interior. We had such an incredible time!

As we got to shore, Jives realised that he had lost his wedding ring in the ocean. Honestly, neither of us was really bothered by the loss of the ring. Jives had broken three wedding rings and this last one had lasted seven years and looked like we went through a lot…we did!

We walked back to the hotel to cool down and have lunch and that’s when the really sad stuff happened. Jives jumped in the pool, but with his phone in his pocket. The phone was toast, like soooo dead. He plugged it in later to try and charge it and set the charger and port on fire. Understandably Jives was pretty sad for a while after that. We walked to a place to have lunch. I had a fish curry and Jives had Gado Gado, a dish with peanut sauce, his meal was much better. There was a super rude customer behind us and another super rude mother daughter combo came in a bit later. It’s difficult to enjoy a meal when other tourists are loudly complaining and acting like the staff is stupid. I really don’t understand tourists like this. The meal was ok, but the restaurant played Nickelback the whole time we were eating (the waiter was singing along which was adorable)… not the best experience. As we left the restaurant a cat jumped on the table to finish all the scraps!

Next we walked to the west coast of the island to snorkel, but the water was pretty wavy and it was difficult to see. I saw a lot of creepy snake-like creatures and an eel.
