This walking tour is something we kind of stumbled upon by accident! We decided on a whim to climb a jungle stair case and it led to an incredible secret temple and secluded rice fields!!! I really hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Alpaca maps says it will take 37 minutes to complete, we took about 2 hours because we kept stopping to marvel at everything! (2.8km total)

Stop 1: Jungle Staircase

Off the main road (Raya Sanggingo) turn and climb up the jungle enclosed steps, lined with statues and maybe even a hidden Triforce!

Stop 2: Cafes and Hotels

The next section will carry you along a little local road with houses and cafes. This is not anywhere near as touristy as Ubud proper.

Stop 3: Fork in the Road

When you reach the end of this road, chose the pathway leading right and follow along the gully. You will have to move out of the way of scooters and there are a few sections where the vines sort of take over the pathway!

Stop 4: Muddy Stairway

It’s easy to miss, but when you find it, descend the muddy stairway into the valley below!

Stop 5: Magical Moss Covered Temple

I could not believe our luck when we stumbled upon this magical moss covered temple. There are thousands of faces carved into the walls, all covered in moss. The river in the middle has crystal clear waters. Just MAGICAL!

Stop 6: Waterfall Temple

Once you’ve tried your best to absorb all the amazing imagery in the moss covered temple, follow the pathway and you will end up behind this water temple.

Stop 7: Beginning of the Rice field Walk

The next stop is the beginning of the rice field portion of the walking tour. Weave down tiny alleys and roadways and discover ducks, farmers and incredible views along the way.

Stop 8: Rice Field Views

I honestly couldn’t stop taking photos, this walk was incredible. I feel so lucky that we decided to, on a whim, hike this pathway and were rewarded with such an incredible adventure. We had the pathway to ourselves with the exception of the odd scooter and duck.
